Daily Bible Reading Devotional [Pslam 119:97-104] – September 27th, 2016

Scripture Reading(s)

Psalm 119:97-104

119:97 Oh, how I love your law! It is my meditation all day long.

119:98 Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is always with me.

119:99 I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your decrees are my meditation.

119:100 I understand more than the aged, for I keep your precepts.

119:101 I hold back my feet from every evil way, in order to keep your word.

119:102 I do not turn away from your ordinances, for you have taught me.

119:103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

119:104 Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.

Reflections

Lydia.jpgThis Psalm should be the cry of every Christian heart. We should find our utmost satisfaction in not only obeying God’s word but truly loving it. A love for God and His word then turns into an outflow of our love to honor Him with our lives. This is not something that happens over night. Notice how the text says ” it is my meditation all day long”. This is something that we have to pursue daily until it becomes a natural part of our lives. God’s word is filled with His wisdom and lessons that can help shape our lives to better reflect Him.

When we make it a point to read and meditate on His word each day, our lives then become affected and changed. We no longer feel the need to follow after the false notions that the world has to offer us. We are able to discern between what is harmful and what can bring us true joy and blessing. God’s word also convicts us of our sin and teaches us how to repent and pursue righteous living.

God’s word changes our thoughts, attitudes, and perspective on life. It teaches to put our love for Him above everything else and we then start to choose Christ over our sin. When that happens we too can sing as the Psalmist did in verse 1o3 “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth”. Nothing else can compare to our love for Christ and His love for us. There is nothing more precious, sweeter and satisfying then experiencing the all consuming work of God’s word buried deep in our hearts.
