Most Boring Dooms Day Yet
It should come as no surprise that the latest dooms day culmination did not result in the planet spiraling into oblivion. There have a slew of failed predictions from even well known Christians for centuries. Here is the short list.
90 CE: Clement of Rome predicted that the world end would occur at any moment.
2nd Century CE: Prophets and Prophetesses of the Montanist movement predicted that Jesus would return during their lifetime.
375 to 400 CE: Martin of Tours, predicted that the end would happen sometime before 400 CE.
968 CE: An eclipse was thought to be a prelude to the end of the world. This was said by the army of the German emperor Otto III.
January 1, 1000 CE: Many many Christians and church leaders throughout Europe predicted the world would end and even started campaigns both peaceful and military to convert everyone to Christianity before that date.
1179: John of Toledo predicted the end of the world during 1186. This estimate was based on the alignment of many planets.
1284: Pope Innocent III computed this date by adding 666 years onto the date the Islam was founded.
1346 and later: The black plague spread across Europe, killing one third of the population. This was seen as the prelude to an immediate end of the world.
1794: Charles Wesley, one of the founders of Methodism, thought that Doomsday would occur in this year.
ToDate: Many other modern day predictions listed HERE!
As stated in my previous post on the subject, a solo blood moon falling on a Jewish feast day is not a biblical end times prophecy.
The biblical passages dealing with blood moons in revelation, Matthew, and Joel states:
12I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, 13and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. 14The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. (Revelation 6:12-14 NIV)
30 I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. 31 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. (Joel 2:30-31 NIV)
Immediately after the distress of those days “ ‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’ (Matthew 24:29 NIV)
what I would like to point out is that the blood moon is only a single sign of many that will come in the end. However, I personally do not believe that all of the end times imagery is to be taken literally, rather than as a symbol of something else.
What’s Next?
So, the question is: what is next for end times predictions? 2016? 2017? Will Iran start the nuclear end of the world? Will ISIS start Armageddon?
