Donald Trump Continues To Prove He’s Not A Christian Nor Does He Understand Christianity

Trump’s remarks on making it into Heaven

Reported in the Christian Post, Donald Trump has recently declared that the only way he’s getting to heaven is by being a good president, which is really just setting himself up for failure since he might not even get to oval office.

So go out and spread the word and once I get in, I will do my thing that I do very well. And I figure it’s probably maybe the only way I’m going to get to heaven. So I better do a good job. Okay? Thank you. (Trump, speaking at the American Renewal Project)

At every turn trump has demonstrated that he has no idea what’s in the Bible or how Christianity even works. It’s clear that Trump does not attend church and he relies on TV evangelists to inform his Christian opinions. He has no idea of what’s in the Bible and cannot even read off the names of the books correctly as he failed to do in front of the Liberty University convocation, citing a passage from “2 Corinthians”.

Now we see Donald Trump believes that somehow he is going to earn his ticket to heaven by being a good president. There are two real issues with Trump’s theory. First, no one can earn their way into heaven, it’s only by faith in the Lord. Secondly, Trump is basically admitting that until now he has not lead a life that is worthy of going to heaven, a sentiment that I would probably agree with, if going to heaven were based solely on behavior.

I have no idea if I will ever meet Mr. Trump in heaven one day. However, I do know that Trump has no idea how Christianity works and I highly doubt he’s ever had a sincere devotion to the faith.

Should evangelicals believe Trump is a Christian?

So far in the presidential race we have gone from Evangelicals believing Trump is a Christian, to evangelicals believing he’s not a Christian but that he will fight to protect Christianity, to now believing that he’s like Cyrus King of Persia (I.E. he’s not following God but God will use him anyways). For those not up to speed on King Cyrus, he was the Persian king who freed the Israelites from the captivity of the Babylonians and which later allowed for Nehemiah to go back and rebuild his city. But Trump is no King Cyrus. King Cyrus was an outsider to God’s kingdom and never claimed to be Jewish. Trump masquerades as an insider of the Christian faith but continually demonstrates that he has no regard for it.

And Trump obviously believes that he hasn’t really been much of a Christian if he thinks the only way into the pearly gates is through his being a good president. I would suggest that possibly his believe in that he’s not worthy of might be founded in some hard truth. Let’s examine Trumps behavior over the years.

What kind of fruit has Trump produced?

“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. (Matthew 7:15-20)

While we do not earn our way into Heaven, scripture is clear that those who are doing the work of the Lord will produce fruit representative of that work. Let’s examine a few pieces of Trump’s fruit.

Trump’s Family Life

  • Married 3 times
  • His first wife (Ivana Trump) testified in court that he raped and physically abused her.
  • He also cheated on his first wife, with his second wife Marla Maples.
  • He married his last wife as she was illegally working in the USA. (irony noted)

Trump’s Business Practices

  • Trump businesses have been sued over 3,500 times which makes them some of the most sued industries in the world.
  • He has personally been sued over 1,300 times .
  • Many lawsuits were over contractors not being paid. Trump has been sued over 130 times by employees and contractors, for everything from not getting paid over time to getting paid less than the minimum wage. Trump has even hired illegal Polish workers and refused to pay them knowing they could not take him to court.
  • He’s been criticized over time for his practice of buying land containing residential housing and strong-arming people out of their homes so he can develop the land. He is particularly hated for this practice in Ireland.
  • Trump businesses have been sued over 100 times for not paying taxes. He’s been in tax disputes with states, cities, and federal governments.
  • He’s been sued hundreds of times by investors who were promised returns and then never got paid.
  • Trump created a fake university and falsely advertised that he would be teaching people how to get rich like him. Instead he charged huge sums of money to gullible “students” for seminars that were completely unaccredited and worthless.
    • One worker at Trump University said this after working there “Based upon my personal experience and employment, I believe that Trump University was a fraudulent scheme, and that it preyed upon the elderly and uneducated to separate them from their money.
  • He has been sued and accused many times of sexual harassment and sexual assault.
  • When attempting to negotiate the purchase of the American Dream pageant in 1992 it was reported that he had groped multiple women and requested barely dressed models to come to party.
  • He brags about opening his gambling joints but he was sued repeatedly for breaking laws regarding gambling regulations.
    • In one case, he had a casino so badly in debt that his father attempted to make an illegal loan by buying 3.5 million chips and “losing” them to the house.
  • He’s also been sued for anti-trust violations.
    • On one occasion he bought millions of dollars of shares in other casinos so he could get controlling interest and shut them down. He was not successful.

Trump’s Own Words

You know, it really doesn’t matter what the media write as long as you’ve got a young, and beautiful, piece of ass.

If I were running ‘The View’, I’d fire Rosie O’Donnell. I mean, I’d look at her right in that fat, ugly face of hers, I’d say ‘Rosie, you’re fired’.

All of the women on The Apprentice flirted with me – consciously or unconsciously. That’s to be expected.

The beauty of me is that I’m very rich.

My fingers are long and beautiful, as, it has been well documented, are various other parts of my body.

I think the only difference between me and the other candidates is that I’m more honest and my women are more beautiful.

The point is, you can never be too greedy.

My IQ is one of the highest — and you all know it! Please don’t feel so stupid or insecure; it’s not your fault.

In an interview with PlayBoy magazine (which he was on the cover of) he was questioned about his ego and this is how he framed it…

PB: How large a role does pure ego play in your deal making and enjoyment of publicity?
DT: Every successful person has a very large ego.
PB: Every successful person? Mother Teresa? Jesus Christ?
DT: Far greater egos than you will ever understand.

Clearly Trump is reading another gospel. When was asked in an interview about whether or not he seeks forgiveness when he does wrong he responded with this:

I am not sure I have, I just go on and try to do a better job from there. I don’t think so, I think if I do something wrong, I think, I just try and make it right. I don’t bring God into that picture. I don’t.

Other horrible sayings of Trump…

Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are little short guys that wear yarmulkes every day.

If you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the crap out of them, would you? Seriously, okay?

(John McCain is) not a war hero…. He’s a war hero because he was captured

Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?! I mean, (Carly Fiorina’s) a woman, and I’m not supposed to say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?

Beautiful, famous, successfulmarried – I’ve had them all, secretly, the world’s biggest names, but unlike Geraldo I don’t talk about it.

Listen, you motherfuckers, we’re going to tax you 25 percent!

Nobody cares about the talent [in beauty pageants]. There’s only one talent you care about, and that’s the look talent. You don’t give a shit if a girl can play a violin like the greatest violinist in the world. You want to know what does she look like.

A person who is very flat-chested is very hard to be a 10

Oftentimes when I was sleeping with one of the top women in the world I would say to myself, thinking about me as a boy from Queens, ‘Can you believe what I am getting?

There’s nothing I love more than women, but they’re really a lot different than portrayed. They are far worse than men, far more aggressive, and boy, can they be smart. Let’s give credit where credit is due, and let’s salute women for their tremendous power, which most men are afraid to admit they have.

I don’t [change diapers]. It’s not my thing. You know what, I’m a good father but that’s not my thing and Melania’s going to be a great mother. To a large extent it’s up to the women. There are a lot of women out there who, you know, demand the husband act like the wife and there are a lot of husbands who listen to that.

I think Eminem is fantastic, and most people think I wouldn’t like Eminem. And did you know my name is in more black songs than any other name in hip-hop? Black entertainers love Donald Trump. Russell Simmons told me that.

In the second grade I actually gave a teacher a black eye — I punched my music teacher because I didn’t think he knew anything about music and I almost got expelled.

You may get AIDS by kissing.

There are many more Trump quotes out there but I think the point is proven. Trump just simply is not a Christian.

  1. Chuck is a racist, fake Christian, wannabe patriot. He’s all over the internet. Not bright, spews liberal hate and has an ignorant view of history. He quotes Jesus from the bible as a legitimate, historical source. Chuck you said on a different site that every liberal is a whiny blah blah blah that squat to pee. Meet me anytime, anywhere and we can see who’s tougher. Bootlicker.

  2. It matters not whether they be democrats or even calling themselves republicans, Anti-Trump people are just plain, haters of true American values. They claim they don’t “hate” President Trump, but like the democrats who ALL support murdering the unborn … right up to just minutes before the ninth month … and supporting illegal aliens and open borders and disarming American citizens, so are those who claim to be republicans. They are republicans like Jeff Flake and John McCain … they agree with the democrats and they vote with the democrats, and like the democrats, they are ALL terminally stupid. I am still holding my breath waiting for any of you Trump-hating liars to give some examples of actual, verifiable lies of Donald Trump. It is YOU who are the liars.

    • YouTube has thousands of videos with Trump lying like a rug. Just type in the phrase “Trump lies” into the YouTube search box. You’ll have hours of watching Trump lie about everything from the rain at his inaugural address to the lie about not knowing Prince Andrew or Epstein.

I highly suggest you remove yourself from whatever bubble you live in and do some research. And by research I don’t mean listening to Rush Limbaugh or Fox News. If you can’t seem to find his many lie I have no problem making a video of my own with his worst whoppers.

      • Oh, yeah, right. Such great advise! “Don’t listen to Rush Limbaugh or Fox News.” I should be like all of the blithering, slobbering, idiotic, lying, Trump-hating perverts (and other democrats) and listen to Rachel Mad-cow, Pocahontas, The View, MSNBC and CNN. I am a Christian (46 years now). I became a republican when the democrats turned away from me and started sucking up to the gays, the 2nd Amendment haters, the illegals, the abortion industry and anything else that represents our traditional American values. ANYONE who says anyone else (which only means some self-righteous, spiritually constipated little Pharisee doesn’t approve of someone else) can’t really be a Christian is simply a “dumb ass” speaking with a man’s voice, trying to inject his (or her) warped political ideas into Christianity. If you hate Trump, just man up, and say so. But please, save your self delusions about who is, or is not “really” a Christian.

  4. Well, we are now three years into the Trump administration, and President Trump now has enough bad fruits to fill a large warehouse. The last “Washington Post” count indicates that Trump has told 12,000+ lies to the American people—and the lies just keep on coming. Trump’s obstruction of justice (11 counts) was clear in the Robert Mueller report. The only reason he was not charged with a crime was the the current U.S. Department of Justice policy that no sitting president can be charged with a crime. Approximately former U.S. Department of Justice attorneys prepared a joint letter saying that they would have gone to a Grand jury and formally charged Trump with 11 counts of obstructing justice—based on the results of the Robert Mueller investigation alone. Obstruction of justice is a felony.

Then Trump turned right around and tried to get the government of Ukraine to meddle in the 2020 U.S. election by holding up an arms shipment on the condition that Ukraine officials dug up political dirt for him on Joe Biden and his son Hunter. Then there is all the other crazy, unChristian stuff Trump has done across the past three years.

In my honest opinion, Admin’s article above, about Trump and his supposed “Christianity,” are right on the money and hit the target dead center. When we were growing up, our mothers told us it was not nice to call another kid or adult “stupid.” However, the word stupid is in the Merriam-Webster dictionary for a reason. Some people and things in this world really are stupid and that word is needed to accurately discuss them. Similarly, another word in the Merriam-Webster dictionary is the word “delusional.” After reading the foregoing comments by Christians (I guess) who support Trump, I have to honestly say that I really do think they are delusional with regard to God and Trump.

There is a clear reason for all of this delusional thinking—or lack of thinking. Many Christian Fundamentalists and Conservative Evangelicals in the United States have reached a final, collective point of total desperation. From the end of the American Civil War in 1865 to the year 2019, God and his providence have failed to meet their greatest desires at every turn in the American historical road. He failed them through the weakness of the “Great White Hope” known as Jim Crow. He failed them by allowing women to vote. He failed them by allowing all of Fundieland to be publicly disgraced by the 1925 Monkey Trial in Dayton, Tennessee. He failed them by allowing the prohibition of alcoholic beverages to be undone. He failed them by allowing President Truman to desegregate the American military. He failed them by allowing the nationwide desegregation of public schools. He failed them by allowing interracial marriages. He failed them by raising up Martin Luther King, Jr and the success of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. He failed them by curtailment of their prayers and religious teachings in public schools—meaning it was no longer possible for a Christian Fundamentalist school teacher to tell a Lutheran child that he and his parents were definitely going to Hell. He failed them by allowing birth control pills and IUDs. He failed them by allowing men to have long hair and beards in public. He failed them by allowing women to work commercial jobs. He failed them by liberating women from centuries of home-based abuse by their husbands. He allowed the teaching of evolution in public schools. He allowed American businesses to operate on Sunday. He allowed local Blue Laws and liquor laws to go away. He allowed gay people to get married. He allowed annual Southern Baptist baptisms to swing way low for successive years. He allowed (and is continuing to allow) the slow disintegration of small Christian Fundamentalist churches such as the many small IFB churches. And the list of failures and grievances goes on and on and on.

All of these monumental failures across 150 years caused the Christian Fundamentalists and Conservative Evangelicals to reach a point of national desperation—a desperation so deep–so abiding—so overwhelming—that their last great hope—their only remaining hope by their own public admission—was to turn to Donald J. Trump—their final hope. They turned to a New York City sinner worse than most of the foulest and most depraved sinners in the entire Holy Bible—Donald J. Trump. Where the Holy Spirit had failed them so many successive times, this deplorable sinner—one of Satan’s best and most adored children—would save them. Their greatest celebrity pastors publicly voiced to the American people that if Trump failed them, then their faith traditions were done for—ending with the famous Christian Fundamentalist statement: “Then——All is Lost. All is lost. All is lost.” Now their great earthly savior is publicly disgraced because of his many sins and crimes, abuse of power, and on the low road to certain impeachment and likely removal from office sometime in 2020.

The Christian Fundamentalists and Conservative Evangelicals see that long, 150-year list of lost causes as a list of bad things that God merely allowed to happen—for some odd reason—under his permissive will. They never stop to think about one important thing. A list of losses that long may strongly indicate that God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit never have been on their side in all of those matters, is not on their side in those matters right now, and never will be on their side in those matters and many other matters. Any sane person would look at a list of failures that long, and say the obvious:

“Maybe we, as fallible human beings, are wrong on all of these issues, and God is sending us that message loud and clear through all of these Christian Fundamentalist and Conservative Evangelical failures. Maybe the Mainstream, Mainline American churches are right on all of these issues. Maybe God is not with us.”

When Trump goes down—and he surely shall in 2020—maybe their ultimate despair will cause them to finally understand how much their sociocultural prejudices (particularly long-standing immigrant Scots-Irish prejudices in the American South) have overwhelmed their faith and fused with it to the point where they no longer know where their secular subculture ends and where there faith in Jesus begins. I grew up in the American South and have lived there all of my life. As a professional anthropologist and as a Christian, I know this subculture extremely well. Jesus says to turn the other check when Billy Bob slugs your cheek. However, every True Christian ® in the American South knows what you really do when Billy Bob slugs your cheek. You get up, beat Billy Bob to within an inch of his life—spilling blood, claim self-defense, and ask God to forgive you in church the next Sunday morning—and then beat Billy Bob again when you catch him dating your best girlfriend. I saw it at professional wrestling matches in my hometown when I was a kid in the 1960s. Old women (church going no doubt) were screaming at the tops of their lungs: “Poke his eyes out!!! Rip his testicles off!!!” Yep. That is exactly what any thoroughly drunk19th century Irishman would do. But it is definitely not the Jesus thing to do.

Christian Fundamentalists and Conservative Evangelicals have failed God and failed the United States of America on a massive scale over the past 150 years. I believe God has largely abandoned them because of it—and their many failures are a direct reflection of their sinful prejudices and their abandonment. Their hearts have waxed cold. They are quick to jump on any hatred bandwagon. They are insensitive to the needs of poor people and sick people who have no health insurance—quickly labeling all of them as lazy people who refuse to work and take care of themselves. If these people, like the delusional commenters above, do not repent and wake up from their long sleep—then: “All is lost. All is Lost. All is lost.”

  5. Who wrote this Obama (the Antichrist)???
No people and even the Christian people didn’t vote for Trump because he said he was a Christian. they voted for Trump because it was the first time they had a choice besides choosing a lesser of two evils. And if he wouldn’t have had money, we wouldn’t have even had that choice. It amazes me how many people are so down on Trump. It’s like you wanted Hillary to win you think she would have done any better you think we wouldn’t be slaves are ready if she would have won??? All those caskets Obama had bought for the American people, not with his own money, not really with the American taxpayers many either since we’re so far in debt already. With printed money they just keep printing without anything backing it. We were either going to be slaves or dead. I’m not sure I think more than half of the people are already brainwashed or have the NKI chip implants. they’re primed or already ready, willing and able to be slaves for the New world order. Which Obama became president of, in France.
They asked Jesus who will be the Antichrist? He answered in ancient Hebrew or Aramaic, “Barack Obama”
Barack Obama already has this author wrapped. Are you going to bow down to him when he performs a miracle? If I was a betting woman I’d bet on it.

    • The evangelical vote went to trump at a rate of 81%. He spoke endlessly about being Christian and even appeared in Christian venues like Liberty and he also made a public spectacle of himself by attending a church service. Trump plainly and clearly pandered to Christians to get their vote based on the idea that he was a real Christian, not just giving lip service. It was good enough to get 81% of the evangelical vote.

That being said, the rest of your comment is a bit far down the rabbit hole to chase, even for me. You can believe whatever you want about the NWO and micro chips, yada yada yada. However I will draw the line on made up Hebrew translations.

“They asked Jesus who will be the Antichrist? He answered in ancient Hebrew or Aramaic, “Barack Obama””

I can only assume it’s a reference to Luke 10:18…. which is a reference to Isaiah 14:12-14…. kind of.

First, in Luke 10 Jesus was not asked who the anti-Christ was and he did not provide an answer to such. He merely states “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven”, which is not about the anti-Christ but Satan. While it is true that the Hebrew work for lightning is baraq, in Aramaic it’s beraq. Minor difference but language matters. Also important to realize the Hebrew and Aramaic are not identical languages.

The whole piece about Obama or Ubama in Hebrew is silly. The Hebrew word in question is bama, not obama or ubama. And bama just means a high place or heights. So the the reference works for Isaiah 14:14 but not for Luke 10. In Luke Jesus said “heavens” which is shamayim in Hebrew (השמים). Heavens is not mentioned in Isaiah but heights is said. In Isaiah 14 בָּ֣מֳתֵי is used by the personified devil as saying he wants to ascend above the “heights” (בָּ֣מֳתֵי) of the clouds. Moreover, it’s not pronounced ubama or obama, but ba-mot-ee. This is where conjugation actually matters.

So, basically the whole conspiracy is a sound association game between the Hebrew word for lightning (Luke) and heights (Isaiah). So because Jesus used a word in Aramaic that sounds like barak and Isaiah used a word in Hebrew that sounded like bama (even though Isaiah actually said בָּ֣מֳתֵי / bamote), we are supposed to believe that the character in question as being both Satan Barak Obama…… that’s the weakest anti-Christ conspiracy I’ve heard in years.

  6. Why don’t you (like most of the other Trump haters) just come right out and say, “I hate Trump.” Or … “I don’t approve of Trump.” YOU do NOT get to decide who is or who is not a Christian. Does Trump have a massive ego? Yes. Does he have some serious moral problems in his past? Yes. Does he have an abrasive personality? Yes. But if you would just stick to what you are actually qualified to talk about (your personal feelings about Trump) Your hit piece on the President could have been so much shorter, and much less caustic. Just sayin . . . . .

I acknowledge that he has made some campaign promise committments that he has not been able to keep, but that is ONLY because the hateful, obstructionist (and perverted) democrats and their voters … not to mention the liberal, constitution-hating, leftist judicial activist judges … blocking every legal executive order he issues. I simply do not trust anyone who accuses someone else of lying UNLESS you provide some verifyable examples of his lies. You know, lies such as, “…you can keep your doctor…” and “…we’re not after your guns…” Since Obama and the democrats have created the standard for blatant, in-your-face lying, and bought-and-paid-for false accusations, proving your accusations should be no problem. Waiting but not holding my breath . . . . . . . .

        • First, let’s try to stay on topic. We are not talking about whether either party is without sin. We are talking about whether or not Trump is actually a Christian or if he’s lying about it to gain the evangelical vote. So, I won’t be addressing any of the partisan bickering you just mentioned. If you want to argue about which party is more “moral” than the other we are going to need a better venue than the comment section of a post.

So why do I believe Trump is not a real Christian? I would start by reiterating everything in the post which already demonstrates that his life bear ZERO FRUIT. Beyond that, listen to the words that have come out of his mouth in the recent years.

He insults and degrades people on a daily basis. He made fun of Pence over his stance on gay marriage. He talks about women on in terms of their hotness. He literally lied to innocent people about Trump University and cheated people out of thousands of dollars, on purpose… all well documented.

Listen, if you want to vote for Trump because you like his policies, that’s fine. But stop pretending that you actually believe he’s a Christian. He doesn’t know a single Bible verse. The former pastor at the church he claims to be a part of said that Trump has literally never been through the doors of the church. When he did go to a church service on the campaign trail, he didn’t know not to put money in the communion plate. Trump is simply not a Christian.

          • NOBODY … not even you … can say with any degree of knowledge … that any other person is, or is not a Christian. You have taken the “fruit inspector” job out of context, and proved yourself to be a spiritually constipated little Pharisee. You, like every other human being, sees only the exterior, only God can see what is inside a person. You can publish this or not, this is me talking to you. I am not stupid, so please notice that I do NOT say that you are not a Christian, and I don’t give a dirty rat’s rear-end about your polictics, I am just saying that I think it’s obvious that your opinion that Trump is not really a Christian is motivated by your politics and what you perceive outwardly. By the way, can you deny (Scripturally) that the sovereign will of God put Trump in office?

          • You are right that no man can judge another’s salvation but that’s not really the point of the piece and you know it. Christians voting for Trump merely because he says he’s Christian are being led astray and on purpose.

Also, in aware that the NT and OT both affirm that rulers are only there because God either allowed it or planned it. However, I’ve yet to find a conservative who believes that when a liberal or Democrat is elected. Also, Don’t mistake God’s sovereignty with God’s approval.

          • I know the difference between the perfect will of God and the permissive will of God … I have been a Christian for more than 45 years and an ordained minister of the Gospel of Christ for more than 2/3 of those years … I am NOT claiming to be an expert but I am by no means a novice … and the ONLY theology I care about is the Hebrew and Greek Scriptures. My statement about Donald Trump’s presidency being God’s will is based on two chapters in the Book of Daniel (and various other verses from the Psalms) and is true of “good” leaders and “bad” ones. But I would ask you, just out of curiosity, if you could name me just one person, that you personally know of, who voted for Donald Trump just because they believe he is a Christian. I don’t know of, nor have I even heard of, anyone who voted for Trump on the basis of his claim to be a Christian. Also, and this is only my own opinion, but IF someone (anyone) says that Donald Trump was so ignorant as to put money in one of the Communion trays, it is not only a damn lie, but a stupid damn lie.

  7. SHOULD EVANGELICALS BELIEVE TRUMP IS A CHRISTIAN?
    Genesis 34:2-6. The biblical Value!!!

And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her, he seized her and lay with her and humiliated her. And his soul was drawn to Dinah the daughter of Jacob. He loved the young woman and spoke tenderly to her. So Shechem spoke to his father Hamor, saying, “Get me this girl for my wife.” Now Jacob heard that he had defiled his daughter Dinah. But his sons were with his livestock in the field, so Jacob held his peace until they came. And Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to speak with him.

    Judges 19:24.

Behold, here are my virgin daughter and his concubine. Let me bring them out now. Violate them and do with them what seems good to you, but against this man do not do this outrageous thing.”

    • These are stories, not prescriptions. Not every story in the Bible is an example of how to behave. Many are there (with warnings) to tell us how NOT to behave. These are both stories on how not to behave.

If you read the books in whole rather than snippets it would be obvious.

But you shall do nothing to the young woman; she has committed no offense punishable by death. For this case is like that of a man attacking and murdering his neighbor, because he met her in the open country, and though the betrothed young woman cried for help there was no one to rescue her. “If a man meets a virgin who is not betrothed, and seizes her and lies with her, and they are found,

    • A Christian value? I don’t think you’ve read the NT yet. Christians do no adhere to the Mosaic laws.

Now, let’s talk about why this particular law exists. In the modern world we tend to think it’s because God hated women but that is foolish. In ancient agrarian cultures a women who was raped usually ended up living a life alone as a prostitute because men viewed her as “defiled”. Make what you want of that terminology but that is how things worked. Few men were willing to marry a woman who was raped or lived a promiscuous life.

Since it was difficult for women to survive on their own without a husband or male relative many of them were left to struggle in poverty. We see this in the story of Tamar and also Ruth. By having a national law stating that you have to marry a virgin if you rape her she is provided an alternative to becoming a prostitute to survive. If a man raped a woman but did not pay the bride price and marry the woman he would usually be killed for his terrible deed of leaving the woman to live a life of poverty.

Sure, the customs of the ancient world were strange but this passage is not encouraging anyone to rape women. It’s actually trying to provide a path for women to survive a male dominated world in the event they are raped as a virgin.

But once again, Christians don’t follow Mosaic law.
