Daily Bible Reading Devotional [Acts 2:42-47]-May 1, 2017

Scripture Reading(s)

Acts 2:42-47

2:42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

2:43 Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles.

2:44 All who believed were together and had all things in common;

2:45 they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need.

2:46 Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts,

2:47 praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

Reflections

Justin-Holmes1.jpgThere is a direct connection between the growth of the early church it’s lifestyle practice. In the western world we focus on our own wealth and our own well-being. Yet we are surrounded by people in need everyday. We are surrounded by people without homes and without food. Meanwhile, TV preachers are living in mansions and encouraging people to give money to them, rather than those in need. This type of thinking must change.

The church that endures will be a church that leaves no one behind. It will be a church that promotes the welfare of all of it’s members. This is the type of church that the outside world want’s to participate in. Non-Christians are not interested in being part of a religion that preaches moral superiority without having the fruit to back it up. Our witness to the world will be know by our actions not by our professing.
