Daily Bible Reading Devotional [Psalm 19:7-14]-January 26, 2017

Scripture Reading(s)

Psalm 19:7-14

19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the decrees of the LORD are sure, making wise the simple;

19:8 the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is clear, enlightening the eyes;

19:9 the fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever; the ordinances of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey, and drippings of the honeycomb.

19:11 Moreover by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.

19:12 But who can detect their errors? Clear me from hidden faults.

19:13 Keep back your servant also from the insolent; do not let them have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.

19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

Reflections

Lydia.jpgGod’s laws and His word are written out and exist for a reason. God in His infinite wisdom, knows the temptations of this world and how they can lead us astray, down a dark path. He wants us to live obedient and holy lives because He loves us and knows if we were to try and live this life according to our standard of what is right, our efforts would be futile.

Living the Christian life is not easy because it opposes everything that this world stands for. This Psalm explains why following after God’s commands are the best thing for our lives. Following after God brings much encouragement and life to our very soul. It awakens ourĀ hearts and minds to the pure and right things of who God is and should stir up a desire to keep pursuing Him. It brings light to the darkest places of our hearts, it brings hope when we are in despair, it produces truth when Satan fills our hearts with lies.

God’s word and His commands for our lives are not there to trump on our lives, but to lovingly guide and protect us from the dangers of this world that will be sure to lead us astray. Elevating God and His word is something that we should pursue daily and prayerfully seek for His commands to be an on going part of our lives.
