Scripture Reading(s)

Psalm 130

130:1 Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD.

130:2 Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications!

130:3 If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand?

130:4 But there is forgiveness with you, so that you may be revered.

130:5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope;

130:6 my soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning, more than those who watch for the morning.

130:7 O Israel, hope in the LORD! For with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with him is great power to redeem.

130:8 It is he who will redeem Israel from all its iniquities.

Reflections

Lydia.jpgThere are moments in our lives in which we are desperate to call out to God for help in times of trouble. Our worries often either lead us to despair or crying out to a faithful God who is always so quick to offer us His peace and comfort.

This Psalm speaks to a situation that is so bleak and yet there is an understanding that God is still sovereign even through the hard times. It is a recognition that God alone can bring true hope and assurance that He will remain faithful during those times of darkness. It is a Psalm of encouragement to continue waiting on God and placing our utmost faith and trust in Him.

The Psalmist reminds himself that God had redeemed Israel in the past and will continue to do bring redemption and hope even now. There is no sin, trial or impossible situation that God cannot handle and offer hope, love and forgiveness. He is a God that is faithful no matter what takes place in our lives and His love is steadfast and will remain forever.
