Daily Bible Reading Devotional [Psalm 107:1-7, 33-37] – November 8, 2016

Scripture Reading(s)

Psalm 107:1-7, 33-37

107:1 O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever.

107:2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, those he redeemed from trouble

107:3 and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.

107:4 Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to an inhabited town;

107:5 hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them.

107:6 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress;

107:7 he led them by a straight way, until they reached an inhabited town.

107:8 Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wonderful works to humankind.

107:9 For he satisfies the thirsty, and the hungry he fills with good things.

107:33 He turns rivers into a desert, springs of water into thirsty ground,

107:34 a fruitful land into a salty waste, because of the wickedness of its inhabitants.

107:35 He turns a desert into pools of water, a parched land into springs of water.

107:36 And there he lets the hungry live, and they establish a town to live in;

107:37 they sow fields, and plant vineyards, and get a fruitful yield.

Reflections

Lydia.jpgThere are moments in our lives when we face seasons of drought and dryness in our walk with God. We get caught up in the business of life and often times get distracted by whatever problem or maybe even exciting thing that is being thrown at us.

Whenever we go through these periods, it is when God uses His means to draw us back to Him. Here we see that the nation of Israel was facing yet another threat to their lives. They had experienced great defeat and had hit rock bottom. However, out of their distress is when they recognized that they desperately needed God’s loving hand to help them through yet another trying situation.

The most beautiful part about this passage is that we see just how much God is is all satisfying and all sufficient to meet our needs and carry us through difficult times. In this passage we see how God provides for Israel in several way:

  1. He provided a land for them to dwell in (vs 7)
  2. He provided water to quench their thirst (vs 9)
  3. He provided food for them to relieve their hunger (vs 9)
  4. He provided an endless amount of resources so that they could continue to live (water and food) (vs 33-34)

God hears our cries and answers them in more powerful ways that we could ever expect. Here not only does He deliver them from trouble, He provides them with means to survive and live comfortably. What an awesome picture of God’s grace and love. Let us always thank God for His love and care that He shows despite our sinful nature and tendency to fall away. His love never fails.
