Scripture Reading(s)

Psalm 37:1-9

37:1 Do not fret because of the wicked; do not be envious of wrongdoers,

37:2 for they will soon fade like the grass, and wither like the green herb.

37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so you will live in the land, and enjoy security.

37:4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

37:5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.

37:6 He will make your vindication shine like the light, and the justice of your cause like the noonday.

37:7 Be still before the LORD, and wait patiently for him; do not fret over those who prosper in their way, over those who carry out evil devices.

37:8 Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath. Do not fret–it leads only to evil.

37:9 For the wicked shall be cut off, but those who wait for the LORD shall inherit the land.

Reflections

A lot of the time when we pray, we often wonder why it is that there are those who are not Christians prosper and why Christians suffer. This Psalm answers those questions in reminding us that at the end of the day, it is God who allows for things to happen in our lives. At the end of this passage, we see how there is the eventual arrive of divine justice.

God in His own wisdom, wants for us to experience what it truly means to rely on Him and His timing. He wants to remember that we can trust Him to lead us through difficult storms because as God, He has the power and strength to help us overcome anything we face in life.

Our love for God should not be measured by what God has provided for us. It should be based on who God is and the fact that He is faithful all the time. We cannot base our faith on what the end goal of our trial may or may not be. Our faith is to be rooted on the promise that He can provide for us comfort, peace and strength during the darkest of times. Yes, we know that the trial will end, but it is not our job to focus on rushing to the finish line. God has a plan and purpose for everything we face in life. Whether it is to test the true nature of our faith, let go of our pride, overcome our fears, God is always working to make us stronger in Him and rely more on Him.

God is always acting for us, to bring about good and show us that He loves us and sees that we have the potential to grow more in Him. Often times we forget that one day our trials can be used as a means to encourage someone else. No matter what the reason,  God is moving in our lives to shape us and make us more like Him. Trust that He will provide you with strength, courage and motivation to face each and every day.

He will make your vindication shine like the light, and the justice of your cause like the noonday.

God will not allow injustice rage on forever. Eventually He will pay out the wages for the wicked and it will be death. Inn our short time here on the earth it is hard not to wonder where God is when evil people are succeeding but God has a message for us,

o not fret because of the wicked; do not be envious of wrongdoers, for they will soon fade like the grass, and wither like the green herb.

Do not fret, for God is still in control and His will cannot be thwarted.
