Scripture Reading(s)
Revelation 21:1-6
21:1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
21:2 And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
21:3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them as their God; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them;
21:4 he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.”
21:5 And the one who was seated on the throne said, “See, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
21:6 Then he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give water as a gift from the spring of the water of life.
Reflections
This passage touches on a number of different messages but the main one I would like to touch is in found in verse 4 “he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.” This verse alone summarizes I think what is the main point of this passage and that is there will be a day in which Jesus Christ returns and those of who who have chosen to believe in Him, will spend eternity in Heaven. Furthermore it also paints a hopeful and happy picture for us because we will never again have to endure sadness, death or pain. There will no longer be sin and a fallen world because in Heaven, such things do not exist.
This is a message of hope to all of us who choose to believe in His name. The main message of Salvation is that we turn away from sin by responding to the death on the cross through repentance and receiving forgiveness from God. Through that we are given a new life in Christ and when He comes to take us again we will spend eternity in Heaven with Him!
Imagine living in a world without sin, heartache, temptation, anger, sadness, greed, death, and the list can go on. These things exist because we live in a fallen world and that came as as result of sin. However, when we come to accept the saving knowledge of Christ, we inherit a future hope of one day seeing the sin of this world fall away and us spending eternity with God.
