Scripture Reading(s)

Psalm 139:1-6, 13-18

139:1 O LORD, you have searched me and known me.

139:2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away.

139:3 You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.

139:4 Even before a word is on my tongue, O LORD, you know it completely.

139:5 You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.

139:6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is so high that I cannot attain it.

139:13 For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

139:14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.

139:15 My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

139:16 Your eyes beheld my unformed substance. In your book were written all the days that were formed for me, when none of them as yet existed.

139:17 How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!

139:18 I try to count them — they are more than the sand; I come to the end — I am still with you.

Reflections

Lydia.jpgGod created us and therefore knows every intimate detail about our lives. He loved us so much that He took the time to instill in us what our personalities would be like. This includes our thoughts, desires, fears and hopes in life. He knows them all and took them into account as He planned out the course for our lives.

What an amazing comfort to know that we can leave our lives in the capable hands of our loving Father. We are created in His image and He designed us to  be a picture of who He is. This should give us hope because anything that we face in life does not come as a surprise because God knew it was coming. He also knows our weaknesses and the strength that we need in order to make it through this life.

This passage is meant to fill our hearts with such joy because nothing in our lives is planned outside of God’s hands. He knows exactly what we are going to face each moment and gives us just enough Grace and strength to make it through. We know that we can turn to Him in times of both trouble and joy because being our creator, He knows us best and will therefore meet our needs best.

Our God who is the creator of this universe is also the creator of our very detailed and complicated lives. Let us find rest in the fact that even we choose to rest and rise, God does not and He is always lovingly watching His children, leading and guiding us each moment. Hallelujah, what an awesome God we serve!
