Scripture Reading(s)
Genesis 12:1-4
12:1 Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.
12:2 I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
12:3 I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
12:4a So Abram went, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him.
Reflections
The defining note of Abraham’s life was his faith in the Lord. He is credited with many things but without his faith in the Lord then history would have been drastically different. In the short passage above we are told very little about Abraham. What we are told is that “Abram went, as the Lord had told him.” Abraham trusted the Lord without compromise. If God said it then He meant it. And Abraham called on God’s promised decades after they were made.
In our own lives we can doubt whether or not God is leading us. We question whether or not we are hearing the call correctly. Remember that Abraham went some 30 years waiting for the Lord to fulfill the promise of a son. It was not a promise today and a son tomorrow. it was 30 years of following and waiting. In our own lives we must learn the patience of Abraham. We have to live in God’s time and not our own. Be patient and allow God work in your life on His perfect schedule. It’s never too late or too early.
