Scripture Reading(s)
Romans 8:14-17
8:14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
8:15 For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, “Abba! Father!”
8:16 it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
8:17 and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ–if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.
Reflections
The imagery of salvation provided to the Romans was one of God adopting us as His own children. Because of this adoption we not only have no reason to fear but indeed we are heirs of God, with Christ. Though we may suffer in this life, we have a whole kingdom awaiting us in the next. Where we will be surrounded by the love and light of God.
We have nothing to fear in this earth. No one who wants to harm us or do ill to us should cause us to fear. Our father is the most high king and every will eventually bow down to Him. As Jesus said,
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? (Matthew 6:25-26)
