The earth shook, the rocks split<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-24182\" class=\"text Matt-27-52\"><span class=\"versenum\">52\u00a0<\/span>and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-24183\" class=\"text Matt-27-53\"><span class=\"versenum\">53\u00a0<\/span>They came out of the tombs after Jesus\u2019 resurrection and\u00a0went into the holy city\u00a0and appeared to many people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24184\" class=\"text Matt-27-54\"><span class=\"versenum\">54\u00a0<\/span>When the centurion and those with him who were guarding\u00a0Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, \u201cSurely he was the Son of God!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24185\" class=\"text Matt-27-55\"><span class=\"versenum\">55\u00a0<\/span>Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-24186\" class=\"text Matt-27-56\"><span class=\"versenum\">56\u00a0<\/span>Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph,\u00a0and the mother of Zebedee\u2019s sons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Matt-27-57\"><span class=\"versenum\">57\u00a0<\/span>As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-24188\" class=\"text Matt-27-58\"><span class=\"versenum\">58\u00a0<\/span>Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus\u2019 body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-24189\" class=\"text Matt-27-59\"><span class=\"versenum\">59\u00a0<\/span>Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-24190\" class=\"text Matt-27-60\"><span class=\"versenum\">60\u00a0<\/span>and placed it in his own new tomb\u00a0that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away.<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"text Matt-27-61\"><span class=\"versenum\">61\u00a0<\/span>Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Reflections<\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dustoffthebible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Justin-Holmes1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4182\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-4182\" src=\"http:\/\/dustoffthebible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Justin-Holmes1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Justin-Holmes1.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dustoffthebible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Justin-Holmes1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/dustoffthebible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Justin-Holmes1-80x80.jpg 80w, https:\/\/dustoffthebible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Justin-Holmes1-198x198.jpg 198w, https:\/\/dustoffthebible.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Justin-Holmes1-180x180.jpg 180w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One section of scripture that is hardly discussed in sermons or Sunday school is Matthew 27:51-53. We are used to hearing a reference to the vail\/curtain in the temple tearing but usually the scripture teaching ends there. Let us also recall that Jesus&#8217; death did not just mark the resurrection era but that people were immediately resurrected after Jesus&#8217; death.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span id=\"en-NIV-24182\" class=\"text Matt-27-52\">&#8230;and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-24183\" class=\"text Matt-27-53\"><span class=\"versenum\">53\u00a0<\/span>They came out of the tombs after Jesus\u2019 resurrection and\u00a0went into the holy city\u00a0and appeared to many people. (Matthew 27:52-53)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>How strange but wonderful it must have been for the ressurected bodies or manifestations of dead to appear in the Holy City. Can you imagine your grandfather or grandmother suddenly appearing to you, declaring the good news from the grave? This is why Jesus is described as the first to be resurrected, not the only to be resurrected (1 Cor 15:23).<\/p>\n<p>You can be sure that all the rest of the faithful to the Lord have also experienced such resurrection.
