Jesus looked up and saw the rich\u00a0putting their gifts into\u00a0the offering box,<\/span>\u00a02\u00a0<\/sup>and he saw a poor widow put in two\u00a0small copper coins.<\/span>3\u00a0<\/sup>And he said,\u00a0\u201cTruly, I tell you,\u00a0this poor widow has put in more than all of them.<\/span><\/span>\u00a04\u00a0<\/sup>For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her\u00a0poverty put in all\u00a0she had to live on.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n The passage about the widow’s offering appears in Luke and Mark’s gospel. It’s location in the gospel of Luke appears right after Jesus eviscerates the Scribes and Pharisees. This small lesson about the widow’s offering should not just be read as an encouragement for the poor but also a warning for the wealthy, like the Sadducees. Their flowery prayers and large offerings are not nearly as valuable as the widow’s meager offering.<\/p>\n 41\u00a0<\/sup>And he sat down opposite\u00a0the treasury and watched the people\u00a0putting money into the offering box.
