It would seem as though this story must have been sourced only from Mark and not in the proposed Q document. For those who are not familiar with the 2, 3, or 4 source theory; the gospels are believed to have different sources rather than Mark being the only original source. This can best be explained by the following diagram.

By Alecmconroy (Own work) [GFDL (http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/fdl.html) or CC BY-SA 4.0-3.0-2.5-2.0-1.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0-3.0-2.5-2.0-1.0)], via Wikimedia Commons

The source labeled “Double Tradition” is what would be called “Q” in the 2 source theory. The 3 and 4 sources would be the teal and green sections that are unique to Luke and Matthew. However, many scholars correctly point out that the unique portions could easily be part of the Q source but the gospel writers did not copy ALL of the Q source directly; just as they did not copy ALL of Mark directly.

Either way, in all sources this gospel story is a powerful reminder that we must have faith in Jesus and believe that He is able to handle any problem we have. The lady who touched His cloak was unclean and would have made Jesus ritually impure according to the Jewish law but Jesus is not concerned about that. If someone has faith, Jesus gives His approval without regard for dogma or legalism.

[Featured image titled “Raising of Jairus Daughter”, painting by Vasily Polenov in 1871.]

Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman 40 Now when Jesus returned, a crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him. 41 Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader, came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house 42 because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying.
