However, this proves to be a tough venture since stories of miracles performed by Jesus are going viral. In this particular case, Jesus asks the man with leprosy to do something interesting. He is to go show himself to the priest in the temple and offer a sacrifice according to the Mosaic Law. This law can be found in the first half of Leviticus 14. Since it’s a longer passage it will be posted below the observations rather than in the middle where quotes usually get placed.

Jesus’ command for the leper is in keeping with the law of Moses which is exactly what one would expect from a rabbi. However, Jesus intended this man’s presentation to be a testimony. What is the this testimony of? One would think it would be a testimony of Jesus’ healing powers, which would likely enrage the Priests, Pharisees, and Sadducee. If Jesus is trying to keep a low profile then He’s not going to have much success when He is sending healed lepers to the temple.

Or is Jesus trying to send a message to the ruling Jewish elites without being bombarded by people in the countryside? It might be never fully known what Jesus’ strategy was, but we can ask Him when we get to meet Him face to face in heaven.

Leviticus 14:1-32
[Laws regarding cleansing from skin diseases]

14 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “These are the regulations for any diseased person at the time of their ceremonial cleansing, when they are brought to the priest: 3 The priest is to go outside the camp and examine them.
