Scripture Reading(s)

Psalm 23

23:1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.

23:2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters;

23:3 he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake.

23:4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff– they comfort me.

23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD my whole life long.

Reflections

Lydia.jpgI must confess that I woke up this morning with a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. I have a doctors appointment later today and although it is nothing serious, it is not the appointment that scare me; its getting there. For some reason or another, I have always allowed for my fear of driving in unfamiliar territory to dictate how and when I am going to get to places. It is something that not most will fully grasp. However, over the years I have come to the conclusion that it I have allowed for my fear to get in the way of me being confident in my faith in Christ.

Upon reading this Psalm, I am reminded that fear is not an emotion that God can’t take away and replace with His peace. David, the author of this Psalm, was facing great danger to the point of where is very life was being threatened. Yet, He trusted in God’s ability to take care of Him and be in complete control. He knew that despite how bleak his situation might be, God was still sovereign.

In the midst of our times of fear, it is important we do not forget that the God we serve is strong and in complete control. We can fully trust Him with our fears, worries and anxieties and through His strength, we can still find peace in the midst of our trying times. Lean on God today with your worries, cast your cares in the hands of the one who can take on you worries and replace them with His everlasting peace.
