Scripture Reading(s)

Psalm 8

8:1 O LORD, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.

8:2 Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have founded a bulwark because of your foes, to silence the enemy and the avenger.

8:3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established;

8:4 what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?

8:5 Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor.

8:6 You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet,

8:7 all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field,

8:8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

8:9 O LORD, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Reflections

Justin-Holmes1.jpgWho are mortals that God should be mindful of them? That is a powerful question that the both testaments try vigorously to answer. According to Paul we are the children of the Lord and heirs to the throne, through Jesus. According to Genesis we were made in God’s likeness and we were meant to have dominion over the earth. We were meant to dwell with the Lord and be at peace.

However, mankind has mostly rejected such things. We are sinful creatures that often choose our own pleasures over doing the right thing. This is why it is so remarkable that the Lord is still mindful of us. At every turn we are rejecting His name yet He chooses to forgive us and to love us. It is humbling to know that NOTHING can separate us from the love of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Do not take this love for granted. Walk with the Lord and set out on the journey with Him. Whether you are 8 or 80, God is calling you to His side.
