Scripture Reading(s)

Genesis 15:1-6

15:1 After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, “Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.”

15:2 But Abram said, “O Lord GOD, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”

15:3 And Abram said, “You have given me no offspring, and so a slave born in my house is to be my heir.”

15:4 But the word of the LORD came to him, “This man shall not be your heir; no one but your very own issue shall be your heir.”

15:5 He brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”

15:6 And he believed the LORD; and the LORD reckoned it to him as righteousness.

Reflections

Lydia.jpgGod always keeps His promises. He is not a God who ever backs down from His word or retracts His statements. He is faithful and trustworthy. Abraham was told that He was going to be the Father of many nations and God proved that to be true. However, it is not in the outcome of the promise that is the focus, it is the true genuine faith that Abraham had when God declared this over Him.

Verse 6 encompasses the faith that we aught to pursue in times of worry and stress. Those simple words of “and he believed the Lord” hold so much power and truth. God promises that He will always provide for us and so as sons and daughters of God, we should not doubt the promise of a loving Father. Abraham’s response showed no doubt or hesitation. Notice how He didn’t ask how, why or when. He heard God’s promise and believed.

Abraham exercised His faith by knowing and believing that when God intends for something to take place, nothing can ever thwart that from coming to be. Abraham rested in the promises of God and each time we are faced with a difficult circumstance, let us always be reminded of past times in our lives when God was faithful. If we are just being exposed to who God is, then rest assured that by following after Christ and accepting Him into your heart, His faithfulness can also be true in your life as well.

There is nothing too big or too small that God cannot accomplish. God’s promises to Abraham was a major one that would forever change the course of history. Yet God accomplished it and Abraham did not doubt that He would.
