Scripture Reading(s)

Psalm 8

8:1 O LORD, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.

8:2 Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have founded a bulwark because of your foes, to silence the enemy and the avenger.

8:3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established;

8:4 what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?

8:5 Yet you have made them a little lower than God[or “the gods/heavenly hosts” in Hebrew], and crowned them with glory and honor.

8:6 You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet,

8:7 all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field,

8:8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

8:9 O LORD, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Reflections

Justin-Holmes1.jpgWhat is amazing about our God is too numerous to count but the most amazing thing about God is that He has entrusted man with power and authority  to take dominion over all things. He has created us so much in His image that He has allowed us to rule this domain as His representatives.

It is a humbling fact. God has given us authority but with that we have responsibility. We have to remember that we are not here to just serve our own needs. We are accountable for the welfare of this planet and it’s inhabitants. Besides taking care of the poor and the needy we have to also take care of our planet’s resources responsibly. Without doing that we harm ourselves and we fail to do the work that God gave to us.

But to accomplish this we only need to do one thing…. act as Jesus taught us. We must love God with all our hearts and treat others as we would want to be treated. As yourself before or after dealing with someone, “is this how Jesus would have done it?”
