Psalm 24:7-10

24:7 Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors! that the King of glory may come in.

24:8 Who is the King of glory? The LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD, mighty in battle.

24:9 Lift up your heads, O gates! and be lifted up, O ancient doors! that the King of glory may come in.

24:10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah

Reflections

Lydia.jpgThese last few verses of the Psalm are a commemoration of what God has done for the people. It is suggested that this entire Psalm is a reflection of bringing back the ark of Jerusalem. The people are recalling God’s faithfulness and are expressing in a form of worship and praise.

How often do we sit and reflect on what God has done for us in the past? Sometimes we allow for our past circumstances to cloud our perspective on our present circumstances. Or it could also be that we just become complacent in our walk that we don’t take the time to thank God for all that He’s done for us.

This is something that I tend to struggle with. The second something in my life takes a turn towards a direction that was not part of “my plan” I begin to forget about what God has done for me. Instead of counting my blessings, I choose to enter into doubt and confusion.

The Psalmist here is painting a beautiful picture on what worshipping the Lord looks like through recalling what He has done. That is my prayer for my own life and I pray that you can make it a part of yours as well. We serve a loving and faithful God, let us continue to praise and worship Him for all that He’s done and will continue to do.

Justin-Holmes1.jpgThe paradox of this psalm is that God is the strong and mighty King of Glory, yet the gates must be opened to let Him in. This psalm is really about receiving the grace and blessing of the Lord, and the qualifier is in verse 6,

Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek your face, God of Jacob. (Psalm 24:6)

Receiving salvation requires one to open themselves to receiving it. But accepting the Lord will be the best decision of your life. The Spirit of the Lord will work through you to do amazing things.
